Some of you may recall that a decade ago our beloved, longtime President, Bob Charpie, presented a series of very special wine dinners, not officially W&FSB events; showcasing great wines from his vast cellar. These occasions were more tastings with food, rather than a completely balanced dinner.
Since then, I have long thought that I might offer a similar series, perhaps once per year, with wines from my cellar, which was started around 1963, and to which I have been adding, ever since. I cannot match the depth of Bob’s collection of Grand Crus, but I have perhaps a broader range from France than Bob had. I do believe that a more diverse range of great and mature wines from several great wine regions, combined with top cuisine in an elegant setting and a good “pour” of each wine of about 3 oz.’s, could be a perfect event for The Wine and Food Society of Boston.
The wines for the dinner will represent the best in my cellar from various regions of France (and perhaps later from California), but are limited in quantity. Because of this I have to limit the dinner to no more than 30 persons (3 or 4 bottles of each wine). For the second dinner in this seriesI have chosen Troquet.
