Fifteen members of the IWFS-GOB and their five guests gathered at Le Voltaire Restaurant in Omaha. The restaurant , considered one of the finest dining establishments in Omaha features classic French cuisine. Chef Cedriac Fichepain, born in France , was voted “Restaurateur of the year in 2007, and inducted into the Omaha Restaurants Hall of Fame in 2015. We dined in the private “wine room”, a beautiful setting with a direct view of the wine cellar.
For Quaffing variety of hors d’oeuvres were passed by the attentive staff, and the red and white wines paired nicely to get the evening started. The guests were introduced and welcomed.
The First Course featured a rich and savory Beef and Barley soup. The French sparkling wine selected was an excellent pairing (with a nutty nuance , & plum and cherry flavors).
The second course was a seafood gratin containing lobster, shrimp and bay scallops in a rich white cream sauce. It paired very nicely with the white Bordeaux, which was smooth, complex, and buttery. Luckily, Le Petite Paris’ popular baguette was available to enjoy the delicious sauce. A small tossed salad was served with this course.
The Third Course, the classic Cassoulet de canard, was a crowd favorite. The dish contained duck confit, bacon, and house-made Toulouse sausage and was served over white beans. The Bordeaux wine served was powerful, smooth ,balanced & fruity and complemented the course nicely..
For the Dessert course, the Port wine served (which was dense, and concentrated, but also fruity and balanced) was a real hit with the Chocolate Pots de creme.
To top off the evening, each of the ladies received a bud vase containing a red rose to take home in celebration of Valentine’s Day. The flowers were used as decorations on the beautifully set tables.
