Valentine Event

Twenty one members attended this event, including one couple’s first time to attend as members. Brushii Bistro & Bar is a popular restaurant, known for good food and good service.
We were assigned to a room off from the main dining area, which was “cozy” for the size of our group, we were able to mingle a bit before being seated. The service was very good, and we were able to mingle and socialize before being seated.
For the Quaffing, the Salmon Crostini and the puff pastry were to die for, was paired with the Duckhorn Chardonnay (fruity, with delicate acidy & supple richness); and the Vallpolicella (a dark red blend with hints of pepper, cherries & licorice). The combination got us off to a good start for the evening.
The Butternut Squash soup was paired with a Sauvignon Blanc, (which was fresh & light with hints of vegetables) got rave reviews!
The Euro Salad was simple, but tasty with the Grunerveltliner wine (which had citrus aroma, and was light and fresh).
The Veal Veronese course, paired with the Rombauer Zinfandel, ( which was a dark purple blend with aromas of blackberry, cherry, licorice and pepper & a fresh, enticing finish) knocked it out of the ball park.
The dessert course (Fresh Fruit Tart) was beautiful and delicious, and was served with coffee. A dessert wine would have been nice, but it tasted great with coffee , and we had already had an abundance of wine.
This menu was a good example of good food served with wines that did not have 90 plus ratings, but were very good with the course they were served with. Although no one gave a formal presentation re the food and wine pairings, conversation at the tables included opinions about the pairings, which were positive. It was obvious that the planners, along with the chef, were successful in putting together a menu and wine selections with were very good at a reasonable cost. Members obviously enjoyed the opportunity to interact, and get to know our newest members, and felt it was a successful event.
