Twenty-one members attended this event at Spencer’s, a restaurant in the Old Market area, which has been in this location for ten years.  We found out that this restaurant has been recognized as “exceptional” by the Wine Spectator for the last 9 nine years!

Chef, Glen Wheeler who was previously at the Passport & Omaha Prime restaurants, worked closely with our planners to come up with this unique menu which was very well paired with the wines, and had a beautiful presentation.  Though-out the evening, the courses were introduced  by the chef.

The first course featuring Rock Shrimp, (combined with cucumber, lime, red onion & Cilantro) was paired very nicely with the 2016 Alois Lageder Pinot Grigio (R 90), (which tasted of ripe fruit with a hint of lemon zest).

The second course, a very unique romaine wedge Caesar salad with chicken thigh confit, was very well paired with the Sonoma Coast Chardonnay which had a nose of ripe peaches, live acidity, and long finish).

The pork belly served with rice grits & baby turnips in the third course, was rich and succulent paired with the Mud House Pinot Noir which was smooth with dark cherry and bramble flavors finishing with aromas of vibrant spices.

The fourth course featured a combination of four different cuts of beef, and was served with pasta and tomato jam.   The 2016 Los Pegase, Merlot with undertones of raspberries and dried herbs complimented this course extremely well.

Lemon coconut cake, served for the dessert course, was a real hit with the Royal Tokaji which was very complex, and intense, tasting of apricot and honey with a slightly acid finish).

Although this setting is “regular” for some of our group who stop here for wine and an appetizer or dinner before attending the Symphony (a block away) for others this was a novel experience, and we were amazed at the food, wine, and service we experienced!
