V Mertz is one of the premier restaurants in the Omaha area, and in the past we were unable to schedule an event there because the management required groups to reserve the whole restaurant in order to be seated together.  Having  a new owner, we found them to be very receptive to us, and were indeed a pleasure to work with.  With 3 sommeliers on staff, including the manager who was very knowledegable in food and wine pairings, we gave them free reign in making the selections, within the budget we had to work with.  The menu and wine selections were made with the Olympic theme in mind, featuring foods and wines of several different countries which have been involved in the Olympics.

After a test dinner, Matthew made some changes we requested.  The setting  was perfect for our group of 43, which included 9 guests.   Our branch subsidized the event $10 per member, , and the restaurant offered us a reduced price because of our affiliation with the IWFS, so members recognized this as a very good value, which made it a popular event.  One member described the event as, "best ever"!  The underground  rustic setting in the Old Market, along with excellent wine and food pairings for 6 courses meal, made the evening pretty close to perfect.  Matthew Brown talked about the wine selection prior to each of the courses, and Jon Seymor went to each table talking about the food for that course, and answering any questions.

At the conclusion of the evening, Matthew introduced all of the staff involved in planning, preparing, and servintg our meal, and our members and guests showed their appreciation for all of their hard work. Feed back from members and guests regarding this event were very positive, and we would definitely revisit this fine restaurant for future events.
