Five years ago, in the summer of 2008, the world economy entered into the deepest recession since the 1930's. Particularly hard hit, and almost going into full default, were the European countries of Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain, which were then given the moniker "PIIGS". Three years ago, in February, 2011, The Wine & Food Society of Jacksonville had its "Sweet PIIGS" dinner at Matthew's.
Many economists felt that growth in the new market economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China would be enought to sustain the world economy until growth could resume in the U.S. and Europe.
Thus, on February 8, 2014 we had our Big Box BRICS dinner enjoying 7 courses and 7 wines highlighted by Chef Matthew Medure's versions of some traditional dishes.
Members were asked to dress Business Casual with emphasis on red, black or both
