EVENT DESCRIPTION:
The Miami chapter welcomed a full house at our coed dinner and wine event at Ghee Miami, serving a unique style of Indian cuisine, located in the Dadeland Center. While Ghee is relatively new to Miami, the owner and chef, Niven Patel, and his wife Shivani, have already opened a second location in the Miami Arts District. The restaurant has had notable success and critical acclaim for its very modern and tropical take on Indian cuisine, what I like to term “nouvelle Indian". The menu is extremely inventive, and is a revelation for those of us who enjoy and regularly partake of traditional Indian food. One of the notable features of this restaurant is that much of the produce and spices used come from the Patel‘s ranch in Homestead.
The Patel’s were very excited about this event and wine pairing, and planned a multicourse family-style meal that highlighted the many facets of their menu. We found our initial tasting dinner was a delightful and educational wine pairing experience, with some unusual choices from our cellar and recommendations by the beverage manager at Ghee, who is most interested in the pairing of wines with Indian food. We had multiple wines to pair ranging from the old favorite Alsatians to mature structured reds to soft and fruity Subcontinental discoveries. The wine of the evening was by many votes the 2007 Tablas Creek Esprit de Beaucastel but every course was a treat and there was a wonderful diversity of favorites.
