A sensational Italian event!
Drago Centro continues to be one of the foremost dining establishments in downtown Los Angeles. Originally from Sicily, Celestino emigrated to Los Angeles in the mid-1970s and quickly became regarded as one of the pioneers of Italian Cuisine in the US. He has become one of Los Angeles’ most celebrated chefs, with honors ranging from Food & Wine Magazine selecting him as a “Best New Chef” to being an invited guest chef at the James Beard House in New York on multiple occasions!
We enjoyed an exquisite menu paired with wines from our cellar. The evenings began with a chiseled Italian sparkler during reception followed by two stellar whites. We then enjoyed a top cuvee (Madonna del Piano Riserva 2009) from the premier Brunello producer, Valdicava. A perfect pairing with the Breast of Pheasant Stuffed with Prosciutto & Fontina, with Truffle & Morel Mushrooms Sauce. The wines with the final savory course (Prime Ribeye Fillet Soft Polenta, Roasted Cipollini and King Mushrooms with Salsa Verde & Black Garlic) were served blind and consisted of the superb Super-Tuscan Sassicai 2013 and a mystery wine. When the delicious mystery wine was revealed (Felton Family Farms "C-Cubed" Red Blend 2017) the group was delighted to know it was from our cellar master’s (Dave Felton) winery in Argentina. All in all, it was a terrific evening!
