The day was warm and sunny as the IW&FS Vancouver branch visited Grouse Mountain—the Peak of Vancouver—for lunch at The Observatory Restaurant. Several of us ventured out early by Skyride to the top—one hardy couple hiked the BCMC trail—to view the grizzlies and to enjoy the Lumberjack show before our meal. The menu included local produce and was accompanied by fine wines from our cellar.
A glass of 2007 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros from William Fèvre welcomed us before we sat for our first course of Baby Spinach Salad with Red Grapes, Roasted Shallots and Radish with a Maple Sherry Vinaigrette, followed by a delicious Herb & Shallot Marinated Lamb Sirloin with Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes and Seasonal Vegetables with a Roasted Garlic & Rosemary Jus accompanied by a 2007 St. Clement Cabernet Sauvignon, Progeny Vineyards from the Napa Valley. Dessert was a Raspberry Vanilla Crème Brulée with a 2008 Inniskillin Riesling Icewine, a sweet finish to a delicious meal.
