Our President’s Dinner, this year, is a celebration of the greatest modern vintage of Bordeaux, at the peak of its drinking curve.
It was with a selection of 28 different Bordeaux Grand Cru Classe of the 1982 vintage, served across two spectacular dinners in April 2006 that the Founders of our branch of the Society announced its launch.
The 1982 vintage for Bordeaux is significant for the world of wine, in that it heralded on the wine scene a critic who called the vintage correctly when all the established critics of the time did not receive it with the same enthusiasm. Robert Parker went on to attain super human status in the world of wines. The vintage has featured on a couple of occasions since the launch of our branch and always elicited a wow!
We are fortunate indeed to be able to source these wines in pristine condition from the collection of one of our member, Mr. Nihal Kaviratne’s considerable and perfectly maintained cellar. The dinner will feature Chateaux Palmer, Montrose, Beychevelle, Haut Brion, L’Evangile, Pichon Lalande, La Mission Haut Brion, Latour and finish with Chateau d’Yquem. 3 of these wines have been rated a perfect 100 points by Parker whilst 2 fell short by 2 points with the remaining 4 rated in the 90’s.
As is customary, the dinner takes place in our President’s home in Mumbai. The date is set for 1st July 2011 at 7.30 pm. The event is priced at Rs. 32,000 for members and Rs. 35,000 for guests. As per tradition, this event is limited to 16 members, signing up on a purely first come first served basis. Reservations are open exclusively to members until the 1st June 2011 after which any vacant places will be open to guest participation.
