Great Sauternes

Theme Great Sauternes
Venue Indigo Restaurant
Location 4 Mandlik Road, Colaba Mumbai – 400005
Date Feb 17, 2012

The great wines of the Sauternes and Barsac regions, commonly known together as Sauternes and also officially allowed to be labeled as Sauternes, regardless of the village from amongst the two, are inarguably the regions that produce the greatest dessert wines in the world.

Due to the magical confluence of its location upstream along the banks of the Garonne river and at the height of the ripeness of the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes, the high humidity mists results in Botrytis cinerea which is a desirable fungus that attacks the grapes resulting in the formation of noble rot which dehydrates the grapes making it almost raisin like with a very high concentration of sugar and flavours.

With a generous offer of sourcing, from the cellars of one of our members, absolutely the top wines from these appellations our committee has been able to put together this most unique event for you.  The wines are also all from some of the greatest vintages from the last quarter of the last century which adds to the special appeal of the event.

The idea is to create a fabulous pairing with savoury, spicy and dessert preparations to show the wonderful versatility of these wines in pairing with different foods.  The format will also be less formal with an interactive sit-around the Chef.

Apart from Chateau d’Yquem which has both a classification of its own and is in a price category of its own, most of these other wines are incredibly well priced when one considers, especially, the prices of great red Bordeaux wines and therefore we have been able to, through the generosity of our donor member, bring this event to you on Friday, February 17, 2012.

Following are the list of wines at the event.
