Message from the President
It seems rather strange to be writing to you about the pleasures of the table with the world yet again in turmoil. The human spirit needs, however, to find joy amongst all that besets it and there are few finer things than to share great wine and food with friends, be they new or old. Frustratingly, It is not open to us to solve all the problems we face in life but I do believe that a little bit of joy and happiness goes a long way.
In Sydney, in great weather, we have just completed a small but perfectly formed Festival showcasing some wonderful wines and magnificent food beginning at the European inspired 'Oncore', one of Australia's finest new restaurants and culminating at the celebrated Japanese fusion restaurant, 'Tetsuya's' with the presentation of the André Simon Gold Medal to the Immediate Past Global Chair of the Society, Michael Tamburri. Michael well embodies the spirit of the Society which he showed with his customary generosity and kindness throughout the pandemic years in which he led the Society's International Council. Michael continues to serve the Society on its International Council and as the current APZ Chair. I was honoured to perform the ceremony a day after we celebrated the Society’s 90th anniversary and the New South Wales Branch's 40th birthday.
With your support and with a continuing drive for new members to share the journey we remain firmly on course to reach our 100th birthday with many great events to look forward to in the interim.
Chris Bonsall
President
