Vertical Tasting of Dominus and Dinner on the Deck at Grand Old House

Celebrating the 80th anniversary of the International Wine and Food Society, the Grand Cayman Branch honored the event with a vertical tasting of Dominus (a Bordeaux blend made in Napa by Christian Moueix the producer of the famed Petrus) comprising the years of 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000 and following dinner on the deck of Grand Old House.

Branch Chairman, Tessa Johnson-Bodden opened the tasting with a commemoration of the anniversary and introduced Paul Anderton and Luciano De Riso (the Grand Old House Wine Director) who conducted the tasting.  Member Dale Crighton who helped organize the event was unable to attend and present the wines.

Following the magnificent wine tasting, the members moved out to the deck and enjoyed champagne and Canapés. Le Mesnil, Blanc de Blancs. Grand cru, NV, France

Our first course was a lovely yellow and red beet carpaccio Goat cheese cream with Lavender poached grapes, Arugula with infused virgin olive oil and was accompanied with Gruner Veltliner, Jurtschitsch, Dechant, Kamptal, Austria, 2011.

The second course was a magnificent braised Lobster chunk Truffle velouite, Avocado caviar, cream fresh, with organic micro greens and paired with Barbara d'Alba, Funtani, Cordero di Montezemolo, Piedmont, Italy 2009.

The third course of Cashew Crusted Lamb medallions with green pea mashed pototoes, rainbow vegetable pearls, smoked mint and red pepper sauce was incredible and matched with Finca Valpiedra, Reserva, Rioja, Spain, 2006.

The dessert was an absolute delight to both eyes and palate.  An Orange Mascarpone Mousse with Hazelnut Lava Bitter chocolate Drambuie sauce was a final tribute to mark the anniversary dinner.  It was served with Gsellmann & Gsellmann, TBA, Burgenland, Austria, 1999.
 

The event was organized by Tessa Johnson-Bodden, Becky Scultz, Dale Crighton, Paul Anderton and Luciano De Riso.  Wines were chosen by Luciano De Riso.
