Twenty six people  (including four guests) attended this festive event , in one of our favorite country clubs in Omaha.  Our first snow of the year really made it feel like the Christmas season was upon us.   Live music which was suitable for listening or dancing contributed to the ambience.

The passed HorD’oeurves were very unusual ,attractive, and tasty, and both of the quaffing wines were rated and paired very well.

Rave comments were heard about the first course, featuring lobster ravioli and sea scallops.  The St Helena Chardonnay was perfect.

The Miso glazed blac cod in the  second course  was outstanding, (and definitely something that none of us had experienced before).   People commented about the somewhat unusual color of the Triennes Rose, but it definitely complemented the Japenese items served in this course.

The Tellicherry pepper seared Filet Mignon with the potato risotto and goat ceese and smoked mushroom sauce  in the third course, really woke up the taste buds and the nose.   The full bodied  Chiliean Cabernet stood up well to the peppery entre’.

The dessert was again a novel experience tor those present, but it was pleasing to the eye, and to the palate.   The Tawny Port was an excellent pairing with this course.

Between courses we were asked to discuss the wine/food pairings with  their table mates, and one of the members was selected to represent the table in discussing

the pairings.  This activity sparked interaction, and the comments were mostly positive.

One highlight of the evening  was the presentation of the BGA Silver Medallion to Ann Dunn,  our Event Coordinator.   Ann works hard (mostly behind the scenes) to help assure that our events are successful).   We all felt she was very deserving of this honor.

Between the food, the wine, the music, and interesting people, this was a very enjoyable evening, and was even better when we realized that we were given an early Christmas gift because the event was subsidized by our treasury!
