28 people (including 5 guests),  attended this summer event at the V Mertz Restaurant in the Old Market, which is undeniably one of the finest restaurants in the Omaha area.  It is an event we always look forward and were not disappointed.  The restaurant has five sommeliers, and      Matt Brown did a great job in creating the atmosphere, and talking about the wine and food pairings we would be enjoying for the evening.

For the quaffing, were treated to  four white wines and four reds, to get us started for the evening.   There was also a beautiful Crudites board  ( with meats and cheeses) which paired well with the wines.

All of the courses to follow featured Bordeaux wines, both white and red.  Some of us were surprised to learn of the popularity of white Bordeaux wines.

First Course:  The 2009  Casteinau de Suduiraut Sauternes Bordeaus ( R90/WS) had  tastes of honey, apricots & peach, & complimented the Foie gras appetizer (which was delicious and attractive).

Second Course:  The 2014 Carbonniueux (R90- WS) was a white Bordeaux, which was  clean & crisp, with the Summer greens salad.

Third course:  The 2016 Chateau Haut Brian Bordeaux Rose (R100 JS), complemented the very tasty Sea Bass course  extremely well.

Fourth Course: The 2011 Chateau Paavie Macwuin Saint-Emillion (R 91-93 by winemakers) was full bodied,  intense and rich, with hint of blackberries and coffee, & complimented the duck confit extremely well.

Fifth Course: The 2012 Chateau Haut-Batailley (R 90-Parker) was deep red, smooth  and charming with the braised short rib, which was tender &  succulent.

Dessert:  The 2012 Casteinau de Sudiuraut Sauternes(R 90 WS)( simple sweet wine, with hints of apricots & honey) was exceptional, served with a beautiful and tasty strawberry  & creme fraiche dessert.

The addition to meeting and exceeding our expectations, and being a fun social experience, we felt that price was fair, and this was a great way to get our summer started!
