EVENT DESCRIPTION:
Our Branch joins the new wave trend for private catering venues and pop-up restaurants with our next event: Dinner at Copperbox Culinary Atelier, an Epicurean Workshop and Dining Room in the developing Wynwood Arts District. Copperbox promotes the mindful savoring of Food, Wine and Good Company. Venezuelan Chef Gabriela Machado and her team create multiple-course menus to be enjoyed privately, by up to 24 guests. Copperbox feels like a hidden gem. You enter through a copper-painted door on the side of a converted woodshop just west of Midtown, but inside is an elegant, dimly lit “gastronomic studio” with a distinct hush-hush ambience. We will have it all for ourselves.
We have reports from several members who have attended or sponsored dinners there that the food is fantastic and the atmosphere energetic as the space is small. At 24, we hit the maximum, so we don’t expect there to be room for guests. The menu is still a surprise since Copperbox changes its menu monthly and November’s will be decided shortly. We have seen past menus, all of which have six courses, were very upscale, and extraordinary. Dishes are often innovative—foie gras ice cream with cocoa-crusted croûte - or prepared simply with fine, locally sourced ingredients, such as Florida yellowtail snapper with fresh baby artichokes, golden beets, and tomato confit or smoked scallops in zucchini and watermelon Soup.
“Cooking should be an intimate affair,” says Machado. “We nourish people and take care of their souls. In most restaurants, I feel that cooking becomes overly mechanized, and some of the magic gets lost.”
