Holiday Gala at the New Riviera
Co-ed Event on Wednesday, December 11th, 2019
DESCRIPTION:
Chef Gerard Lewis served up gastronomic delight with every flight of our finest wines for our gala in the grand new Riviera clubhouse. We secured the private Palm Room overlooking the golf course and the Biltmore for our club's traditional feast. Hosts Ted Evans, Steve Davis, Director Kathleen Phang and Chef Gerard selected a gourmet menu worthy of our cellar and expectations. The reception Hors d’ourves were served with 2010 Vilmart & Cie Champagne Premier Cru Cellier d'Or. We then sat down to enjoy four more courses in gala style, first with 2001 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Clos Häuserer and 2008 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Rangen de Thann Clos St. Urbain served with the daring but perfectly paired Caribbean spiced grouper and curried acorn squash bisque, and then 2004 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes beautifully complemented a savory seared duck breast with roasted grapes and burgundy gastrique with parsnip puree, haricots verts and roasted baby carrots. The magnificent main course was a petit filet mignon with mixed mushroom compote, truffle demi, and country pate crostini, with sides of roasted fennel aligot potatoes and asparagus hollandaise, all served up for our pleasure with the side-by-side stars of the evening, 1998 Château Pavie and 1998 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. For the finale we had dessert offerings to go with our 1977 Graham Porto Vintage including Chocolate almond tarts and Cambazola, walnuts, and figs.
