Let’s shake things up!  This year’s Holiday Event will be held under the stars at Mamey on Third, a rooftop lounge at the Thesis Hotel located on South Dixie Highway across from the University of Miami It will be a PARTY rather than a dinner. The food will be passed hors d’oeuvres and small plates, and there will be many different wines to try - currently 27. You will get to try lots of dishes and drink lots of different wines.  Don’t worry about pairing, just roam free and have a good time. If you were lucky enough to attend this year’s ABM, you know what I am talking about. Do not drive yourself home!

Our chef, Niven Patel, is one of the most talented chefs and restaurant operators in South Florida.  He was a semifinalist for the James Beard Best Chefs in America for both 2019 and 2020, was named by Food and Wine Magazine as one of the Top New Chefs of 2020 and has been written up in the New York Times. He has three successful restaurants in our area: Ghee (Indian) where we held an event three years ago, Mamey (tropical) where this event is being held, and newly opened Orno (classic, wood-fired American) where we hope to go in the future.

Mamey’s cuisine is Caribbean and Asian-inspired. Many of the fruit and vegetable ingredients come from Niven’s farm in the Homestead area and are picked the day of use, so the quality is unsurpassed. This is to say: Niven is hands-on.  Many of our members have dined there.

Planned are six tables of wines from around the world for us to enjoy. The tables are: four grower champagnes, five non-chardonnay white wines from the US and Europe, five different red Spanish wines (some classics and some from new, young vintners), one comparison of two-each red French and California Bordeaux blends or cabs à la 1976 Judgment of Paris, another comparison of two-each French and US chardonnays à la même chose, four different Italian reds of different grapes. We’ll end with a single sweet from Australia. With a couple of exceptions, all come from our cellar.
