The Washington DC Chapter conducts ten dinner events annually. Dinner Chairpersons are selected by the President and rotate through the entire membership. Dinner events take place throughout the DC, Maryland and Virginia area at  restaurants, dining clubs and country club facilities. The food is accompanied by wines selected by the five member wine committee with more than half the wines coming from our extensive cellar facility that has been in existence since the 1950s. Some examples of recurring dinner themes include: Great Wines Dinner, Wine Education Dinner, and Seafood Feast.

April Events

April 10, 2012
Theme Past Revisited
Venue Marcel's Restaurant
Location Washington DC
Date Apr 10, 2012
Time 7:00 PM

The April Dinner of the DC Chapter was a replica of the dinner menu offered by Valery Giscard d'Estaing, President of the Republic of France, at the Elysee Palace to celebrate the Award of Legion de Honneur to Chef Paul Bocuse on Tuesday November 11, 1975.

This particular menu has been replicated twice previously by our Chapter, and was selected by the April Dinner Chair Mack Folsom and his Committee as best suited to match their "Past Revisited" theme. Chef Bocuse was named "Chef of the Century" in 2011 by the Culinary Institute of America.

The dinner was held at Marcel's Restaurant in DC and was heavily attended. Chef de Cuisine Paul Stearman artfully presented the six course replica menu after first presenting a round of delicious passed Hors d'oeuvres that featured fresh Oysters, Salmon and Tuna. Each replica dish was beautifully presented to the more than 50 members and guests with the customary fine service that Marcel's is noted for.

Wine for the evening was selected by Marvin Stirman who manned up to the challenge of past wine pairings, and delivered three French beauties with a 2009 Corton-Charlemagne, a 2005 Echezeaux, and a 1999 Leoville Barton.
