Our function for this month is a Kaiseki Dinner to be held on the 23rd of April, a Tuesday, at Inagiku, Makati Shangri-La Hotel. Below is a link to the Notice containing the details for the dinner including food and wine menu.
Kaiseki is a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner where only fresh seasonal ingredients from Japan are used and the main beverage is Sake. We followed the food with Sake format in the two Kaiseki dinners held in early 2010 and 2011 (both at Furusato). However, for this event, we are modifying it to match the food with French wines that were selected at a pre-function tasting held last week with Inagiku's Restaurant Manager, the F&B Executive Assistant Manager, and Shangi-La's Area General Manager in attendance -- arranged by director Alex Lichaytoo.
Authentic Kaiseki dinners are very expensive at top traditional restaurants in Japan ($200-$500 without sake or wine). Yoshio Ishikawa, the Restaurant Manager of Inagiku, assures us that most of the ingredients used are imported directly from Japan and that the quality of food and the experience of dining there would be as close as one can get in any top restaurant in Japan. Inagiku has been regarded by many as the top Japanese restaurant in the Philippines.
The price that we received for the dinner menu is concessionary. With two of four dinner wines donated by Alex Lichaytoo and Jojo Madrid, we believe that this event presents a great value for members.
