IWFS Tokyo (Japan)

The Tokyo Branch of the International Wine and Food Society was founded in 1959.  It maintains a maximum of 16 members to ensure that the group can visit some of the finer eating places in Tokyo, which very often have limited seating.  Members of the branch are limited to males, although ladies are invited to attend several of the events during the year.

The branch meets regularly, once every month, with the exception of August.  All of the meetings are held over dinner, with the exception of July when we enjoy a seasonal Japanese unagi (grilled eel) luncheon, to which ladies are invited.  Our Christmas dinner is a long-standing tradition – a black tie dinner at the Hotel Okura in Tokyo, usually held in mid-December.  This is very much a 5-Star event.  Ladies are also invited to this function.

To organize our functions, members are asked to host each dinner or luncheon on a roster basis, and are responsible for the choice of the restaurant, the menu and the wines for the event.

Members also have the opportunity to participate in the various Regional festivals held by the Society within the Asia Pacific Zone, as well as International Festivals held around the world.
