The final event for the year for the Victoria Branch is a dinner to be held at Steer Bar and Grill, a restaurant that has received some very exciting reviews over recent months. Steer has gained a reputation for serving the highest quality grain and grass fed Australian beef, with a selection that includes over 30 cuts from 10 specialist beef producers. Food critic Necia Wilden stated that she hadn’t had a better steak in Melbourne, and Steer this year received its first chef’s hat in the 2013 Good Food Guide Awards.
If you are assuming a focus on steak, expect to be surprised and delighted with the dishes that multi award winning Chef Shaun Nielsen has arranged for the evening. We will not be eating from the standard menu - the dishes have been created especially for us to highlight Shaun’s exceptional skills gained in top Australian and international restaurants. These include the three Michelin starred La Tante Claire in London, where he worked with the legendary Pierre Koffman.
As function organisers, Tracey Mander and Charles Harper have selected some very special wines to showcase each of the dishes. These include an example from Benjamin Leroux (considered by Jancis Robinson to be the natural heir to the late and great Henri Jayer) together with the highest pointed wine in James Halliday’s 2013 Wine Companion.
