July Events

July 23, 2015
Theme Champagne Master Class
Venue Crystal Jade (Private Room)
Location 154 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne
Date Jul 23, 2015
Time 7.30pm

Attendees will get to taste some of the greatest Champagnes made. Two of our members, Luan Tran and Thu Le, who are great fans of Champagne, have organised the restaurant and menu – they have guaranteed that the manager at Crystal Jade will look after us in the private room with a very special menu and provide a brilliant match with our very gorgeous wines. Yvonne Wallis and Ian Westcott have designed the Champagne list.

We are showcasing some of the greatest Champagnes made, so this is not a cheap function, but it will be gorgeous. At $595 a head, attendees will see:

  • An opening gambit showcasing 96 Salon – hard to beat
  • A bracket of some of the loveliest cuvees from the beautiful 2002 vintage – Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, Roederer’s Cristal and Egly Ouriet’s beautiful vintage champagne – what a fabulous way to look at 2002
  • A bracket of Krugs – Let’s do it – Masked of course – Grande Cuvee, 96 Vintage and 96 Clos d’Ambonnay (96 a brilliant vintage, a great idea to experiment with these Krug options - some suggest that the Grande Cuvee is actually the best of Krug’s options once it ages; the 96 vintage Krug is breathless, and the extremely rare 96 Krug Clos d’Ambonnay Blanc de Noirs is without doubt an extravagant indulgence. Think the only way to do this bracket is to mask it!! And how about we do it justice and match it with lobster and foie gras?
  • So then we will look at my absolute favourite Rose Champagnes – Selosse, Cedric Bouchard’s Creux d’Enfer (previously nominated as the best maker in champagne) and Henri Giraud’s brilliant and very unavailable rose from Ay. I love them all - we will match these with a gorgeous duck dish.
  • To finish, we should really enjoy their fabulous wagyu beef and for this, I reckon we should wander off to a pair of gorgeous Grand Crus – Richebourgs from Hudelot-Noellat from a couple of great vintages.

This masterclass was limited to only 12 attendees and has already sold out.
