Gastronomic weekend in Klosters

Friday 19 to Sunday 21 September 2014

The Zürich branch of IWFS is organising a weekend in the beautiful mountain village of Klosters nestling at 1200 metres in the Landquart valley and surrounded by impressive mountain peaks and views of the Silvretta glacier on the Austrian border.

Arrival and check-in at the Hotel Alpina on Friday. The hotel has a swimming pool and spa facilities (http://www.alpina-klosters.ch).

On the Friday evening, there will be a reception and gourmet tasting dinner at the Hotel Walserhof (used by the British royal family), where the Dietrich family moved in last year and have been awarded a Michelin Star and 15 Gault Millau points (http://walserhof.ch).

On Saturday morning, we will use mini-buses and foot (3 different options depending on your level of fitness and desire to hike in the Alps) to head into the mountains to the Vereina Berghaus where we will enjoy a typical Bündner lunch of dried meats and mountain cheeses, and needless to say a glass or two of wine. Returning from the Berghaus, there will be an opportunity to walk down the Landquart valley back to Klosters village, alternatively simply take the mini-bus. If the weather is particularly inclement, we will arrange an alternative programme.

On Saturday evening, we will be further indulged with dinner at the Hotel Alpina where Chef Christian Kaiser will present a menu at a 16 Gault Millau point level.

On Sunday morning, we will find our way down the mountain into the Rhine valley and the pretty village of Jenins, where we will have a wine tasting of Bündner Herrschaft wines, which are regarded as the hidden gems of Swiss wine and some people have compared favourably with top French Burgundies, followed by a Bündner/Prättigauen lunch at the Gasthaus zur Traube (http://www.traube-jenins.ch). The event will end after lunch.

The event will cost CHF 800 per head including two nights accommodation with breakfast at the Hotel Alpina. For single occupancy, the cost will be CHF 900. The cost of transport from Zürich to Klosters on Friday and from Jenins to Zürich on Sunday is not included.

We are limited as to the number of people we can accommodate for this event. Until31 January 2014, we are opening registration to Zürich branch members only. After that date, we will advertise the event more widely to members of the European and African region of the IWFS.

It would be great if most attendees would stay in the Hotel Alpina, however if you have alternative accommodation arrangements, please let me know.

Please register your interest with John Nicholas using email jnich4889@aol.com. Registration will need to be accompanied by a deposit of CHF 250 per head – receipt in the Zürich branch bank account will be confirmation of your registration. Final payment will be due by30 June 2014.
