Our Awards
Andre Simon Silver Medal
Mike Donohoe was awarded the Andre Simon Silver Medal, on Monday 19 October, for his remarkable contribution to the Society both regionally and internationally. He has been a member of the Society for 24 years in January. What makes his award rather special is that he has a very broad skill set. He has been a member of the Americas board of directors, organised a number of festivals and events over the years, he has been a member (and Chairman) of numerous committees crossing over many disciplines such as e-communications, marketing, branch resources, new branch development, nominating committee, awards committee, finance committee plus he has been Zone Secretary, set up the archives of the Americas (which he began 17 years ago), he has been Chairman of the Americas and also a Director of The International Wine & Food Society.
Andrew Jones, IWFS Ltd Chairman, announced the award at more of a ‘family’ occasion, in advance of the October meeting of Council members, rather than as had been originally planned, in front of 125 Society members attending the Paris & Bordeaux festival scheduled in April 2020. Mike’s wife Yvonne was on hand to present him with his most deserved medal.
Andre Simon Bronze Medal
Alan Shepherd, Europe Africa member was presented with his medal on 18 November. Alan joined the IWFS in 2006 and became a Branch Committee member in 2008 and Deputy Chairman in 2010. He is an active member of the London and Surrey Hills branches but he had also been instrumental in developing the London website which most Branch members now rely on to find out what is happening in the Branch and make their event reservations. Recently he has also become involved in the revamp of the IWFS.org website liaising with Council and EAZ and working with the technical team to develop some much needed improvements. He also assists in organising events for the Zone and developed the ‘app’ used during the 2018 London Festival. Congratulations Alan.
