The tasting has a “new and old” theme to it; we will be tasting cabernet sauvignon based wines from the old world and the new world, and from a fully mature and a younger vintage. The wines are all blends, to a greater or lesser extent, of Bordeaux grapes and none are syrah or sangiovese blends.
The wines will be Montelena Estate (Napa) 1982 & 2001, Chateau Palmer (Margaux) 1983 & 2004, Sassicaia (Bolgheri, Italy) 1994 & 2008.
For a bit of fun, at the end of the tasting, tasters will be given a 7th mystery wine, from the same genre, and asked to try and identify its origin and age range.
The wine tasting will be in doors and will begin at 6:30pm sharp. Please avoid heavy smelling perfumes, aftershave etc as these can seriously affect the tasting experience for those seated around you.
A pre-dinner reception will begin at 7:15pm by the outside “On the Rocks” bar. The dinner will be accompanied by two really excellent big cabernet based wines: Phelps Insignia 1998 from Napa and Parker Coonawarra Terra Rossa First growth from South Australia.
Grand Old House have designed a menu with choices for the 1st and 3rd courses, so we hope there is something here to attract everyone.
