270th Event: Picnic at Frankie’s
The Board of Governors sponsored this annual summer event at the beautiful home of Frankie Appling located near historic Castle Rock in Corral de Tierra. Since Salinas is Steinbeck Country, it is not surprising that John Steinbeck and his sister, Mary explored these sandstone bluffs named for their resemblance to a medieval English Fortress. Frankie decorated the frontyard and backyard with a multitude of flower arrangements. Sheila Tansill created the name tags and invitations which incorporated a Sunflower theme. Roger Hernandez provided acoustical guitar music throughout the entire three hour event. A fabulous time was had by all!
In addition to providing the venue, Frankie and Max Jamiesson served as Dinner Chairpersons. Peter Tansill, branch Sommelier, selected the appropriate wines to compliment the food. Member Jean Hurd provided an aged vintage port that was fantastic.
The Board of Governors sponsored the picnic by providing salads and entrees that they themselves prepared. Brett Borden smoked several salmon filets; Steve Baker brought a Caesar salad and Watermelon salad; Helayne Williams brought a broccoli salad; Peter Tansill provided sliced grilled beef tenderloin; James Luscombe brought condiments; Debra Borden made a vegetarian lentil salad; Jim Giancola provided many bottles of wonderful Pinot Noir from Bookenoogen; Marie Riley created chicken breast slices with pesto; Rob Gallaway prepared BBQ Ribs.
To supplement the board member offerings, the services and talent of Chef Mario Perez were employed. Chef Perez prepared several fantastic passed hors d’oeuvres.
