The Philippines' Branch April Dinner will be an Italian-themed dinner at L'Opera Ristorante Italiano. Our friend Luciano Zanirato who suggested this dinner engaged L'Opera group's founder and creative driving force, also a "Luciano" and a good friend of ours - Paolo Nesi - who is now based in Rome and a newly accredited sommelier, to provide his expertise to pair Italian wines selected by our Wine Committee with food that he had a hand in creating. He has committed to be with us at our dinner to lend his views on the wine and food pairing along with our own wine and cellar master and sommelier - Bernardo Sim.
For this dinner, we are delighted to feature Tignanello from the 2001 vintage from our cellar. Tignanello is the most famous Super Tuscan wine from the Tenuta (Estate) Antinori which, in 1971, shook up the Italian wine industry because it went against convention by adding up to 20% of its wine Cabernet Saugvignon and Cabernet Franc to what was originally 100% Sangiovese making ineligible for it to be classified as a Chianti Classico. It is rated 93 by Robert Parker, 93 by Wine Enthusiast, and 91 by Wine Spectator.
To provide a more distinctive Italian flavour to the event, we will be providing an hour-long performance of your favorite arias from Verdi, Puccini and Leoncavallo by a local tenor - Dondi Ong. We trust that you will find this event worth attending and truly enjoyable.
