The theme for the get-together dinner on 27 May for the Tanglin branch in Singapore was strictly “Italian”. Held at the exclusive private dining room at fine-dining Italian restaurant, Forlino, which boasted a spectacular view of the swanky Marina Bay Sands integrated resort and fireworks display, it was an apt opportunity to check out the prowess of the new Italian chef-partner, Mario Caramella, who had just taken over the reins of the restaurant.
The dinner met with overwhelming response, and saw many guests, comprising of known restaurateurs and wine lovers, join the midst. The night kicked off with Prosecco ordered from the restaurant’s wine list, followed by the Piodillei Chardonnay from Pio Cesare. The 2009 vintage was still young, but gave a peek of an Italian interpretation with an international grape varietal. This was followed by the Chianti Classico by Fontodi, and finally, the Barolo Le Vigne 2000 by Sandrone. Dr N K Yong walked the guests through the wines with insightful details throughout the dinner. Together with his wife Melina, they contributed a surprise from their cellar– an Avignonesi Vin Santo 1987. A sweet, worthy finish to a memorable wine dinner.
