LIMITED CHAMPAGNE MASTER CLASS AND DINNER – TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 1, 2015 – 15 ATTENDEES ONLY

Following on from the highly successful Champagne Masterclass in July we are holding another Masterclass for lovers of Champagne on 1st September.  This time we will feature the majestic wines of Champagne Jacques Selosse.

Vigneron Anselme Selosse was singularly responsible for showing that a small producer champagne could “eat at the same table” as the Big House luxury cuvees and acted as an inspiration and advisor to many of the small producers now highly acclaimed in Champagne.

The Selosse wines are some of the most thought provoking wines being made. Whilst there is no questioning the quality of the wines the style  can challenge some peoples’ paradigm of what champagne is.

Limited to only 15 attendees, you will get to taste the rare wines of the Small Producer Guru, Anselme Selosse.  Yvonne Wallis and Ian Westcott have designed the menu and wine list to show case the full range of Champagne Jacques Selosse including some very rare cuvees.

We are showcasing some of the greatest and most sought after champagnes, so this is not a cheap function, but it will be gorgeous. At $520 a head, (many of the bottles being presented are offered retail in Australia at well over $1,000 / bottle – without a great meal ) you will see:

  • The complete range of wines ( 12 wines) produced by Champagne Jacques Selosse, the most revered small producer in Champagne.
  •  All six of the recently introduced single terroir wines including the two cuvees only available in a pack of which only two were imported into Australia. These will be served with delicious complimentary dishes designed by Ashly Hicks.
  • Selosse Rosé matched with a lovely wallaby tartare course.
  • As a momentary distraction from the champagnes a pair of gorgeous Grand Crus – 2002 Chambertin Clos de Beze from Armand Rousseau and Gerard Raphet served with a delicious goose dish .
  • See the full exciting menu and wine list attached ( please advise any dietary issues)

Want to come along?   15 places won’t last too long.   $525 a head.  7:00 PM for 7:30 PM at Circa (Private Room) – 2 Acland St, St Kilda.

Organisers Yvonne Wallis and Ian Westcott have really enjoyed putting this event together for you.  Click to view the menu and tasting notes.

Venue Collins Kitchen, private room – The Kitchen Room
Location The Grand Hyatt, 123 Collins Street, Melbourne

Time 7.30pm

Dear IWFS Victoria Members,

LIMITED NORTHERN RHONE MASTER CLASS/DINNER – THURSDAY 17th September – Maximum 15 ATTENDEES

In advance of our upcoming October 15 AGM dinner, which will be held at ‘The Seasonal Kitchen’ in Prahran (owned by member Beverley Sutherland Smith), we are holding a small masterclass for members who wish to see the very best wines of the Northern Rhone.

Yes – just over one week away.  Limited to a maximum of 15 attendees, you will be tasting almost exclusively 100 Point Parker wines:

  • From Côte-Rôtie,  Guigal’s single vineyard wines affectionately referred to as the La La’s, from the brilliant vintages of 1998, 2003 and 2005 - La Mouline, La Turque and La Landonne.  These are wines which Parker admits he has scored 100 points more times than any other wines.  In fact, seven of the eight wines we will be tasting received 100 point scores.
  • From Hermitage, Guigal’s 2005 Ex Voto Rouge (produced only in the best vintages), as well as Louis Chave’s L’Ermitage from 1990 and 1989.  Another 100 point wine, Chave’s 1990 L’Ermitage is considered by some to be one of the greatest wines ever made.
  • In advance of these red wines, we’ll manage to fit in a fabulous bracket of Northern Rhone whites from the Condrieu and Hermitage appellations featuring Viognier and Marsanne/Roussanne.
  • We’ll kick it all off with canapés and Champagne – we’ve selected the 2002 Dom Perignon to begin.

We are quite confident that you’ll get to see some of the greatest examples of what the Northern Rhone can produce.  Yvonne Wallis will be assisted by Adam Foster in presenting this tasting – Adam has not only spent time living and working in the Northern Rhone, but produces his own wine in the style of the La La’s.

Member Dr Michael Lambourne has assisted with the food and venue.  He has booked us into the Grand Hyatt – Collins Kitchen.  But more particularly we are eating in the private room, The Kitchen Room, that we can only enter by wandering through the kitchens.  Michael has designed a very special menu with the chefs who are clearly very excited about our visit and have made a huge effort to impress.
