March Events
Dear Members,
As most of you know from our announcements at previous events, owner/winemaker of the fabulous Savaterre Winery in Beechworth, Keppell Smith, is offering an exciting day for us in Beechworth in two weeks’ time - Saturday 19 March. Some outstanding Grand Cru Burgundies, a lunch cooked by Michael Ryan of Provenance, and for those who wish to stay on, a delicious casual dinner to finish.
Keppell suggested we do a few special things this year given that we are marking the 80th Anniversary of our Branch. Here’s what he has organised:
Michael Ryan cooks at Savaterre:
- Limited to 20 members and guests, we arrive at Savaterre 1pm Saturday 19 March. Some of you may choose to go up on Friday night and eat at one of Beechworth’s lovely restaurants that night. Keppell can advise of restaurants you may like to try.
- Michael Ryan, from the highly acclaimed restaurant ‘Provenance’, will be cooking for us. Expect a spectacular lunch nestled in the barrel room at Savaterre. We will be drinking some outstanding Burgundies, from the Grand Cru villages of Chevalier–Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Richebourg, Romanee St Vivant, Chambertin and Grands-Echezeaux. This is going to be very special.
- After lunch, Keppell has invited us to linger for a casual dinner – he’s offered to fire up his wood fired oven for some gourmet pizzas with some of Savaterre’s delicious wines from magnum. It will be a great day.
Address:
- Savaterre address is Beechworth-Wangaratta Rd, Beechworth VIC 3747, Phone:(03) 5727 0551. Keppell can provide specific instructions on directions to get to Savaterre. He says it takes him 2 ½ hours from St Kilda to get there.
Accommodation:
Some have suggested trying the lovely Tani restaurant, in Bright, on Sunday on the way back to Melbourne.
