The Elim Ward stretches between the coastal towns of Agulhas and Gansbaai and is easily one of the most eagerly watched wine growing regions in the world.  Imaginative and bold winemakers set off beyond the borders of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek to discover this uncharted terrain in the search of making unique wines; wines that have not been tasted from any other region inSouth Africa.

The area has a maritime climate and is heavily influenced by the Atlantic andIndian Oceanwhich causes strong south-easterly and south-westerly cooling winds to blow across the region.

SA Wines Online is the supplier of these wines tonight and has the largest range of South African wine in theUK. They have been voted Decanter Specialist Wine Merchant of the Year 2010 and our wines tonight, which they will take us through, are all their own recommendations to introduce us to this new and exciting area with others from the top 100 SA wines.

A Tutored Tasting of Fine Red Burgundy from the Vintages of 1982, 1983, 1985

 Thursday 10th May

It is very rare indeed that one has the opportunity to taste wines of this calibre from threeBurgundyvintages from the 1980’s and particularly from the wonderful 1985 vintage. However, once again Jeffrey Benson has been prevailed upon to provide us with a collection of very fine wines. The tasting will be led by Jeffrey who has supplied these wines at historical cost thus enabling the event to be offered at an amazingly low cost.

We have eight truly stunning wines for you tonight which are as follows:

1982  Beaune – Domaine Marc Morey

1982  Nuits St Georges 1er Cru ‘Les Pruliers’ Domaine Henri Gouges

1983  Volnay – Domaine Henri Boillot

1983  Chambolle Musigny – Domaine Henri Felletig

1983  Gevrey Chambertin – Domaine Clos Frantin

1985  Santenay – Domaine Remoissenet

1985  Vosne Romanée – Domaine Chauvenet

1985  Gevrey Chambertin – 1er Cru ‘Clos Prieur’  Domaine René Clerc

By popular request a platter of food will accompany the wines.

Very Fine and Rare Dry White Bordeaux Wines

A Tasting Led by Michael Broadbent MW

Thursday 17th May 2012

I have long wanted to arrange a very fine and rare Dry White Bordeaux tasting and when the idea first came to me a number of years ago, I approached Michael Broadbent as the perfect choice to lead it. Dry White Bordeaux is not as long-lived as its red counterpart so do not expect very old wines. As Michael says “Importantly most dry whiteBordeauxis meant to be drunk young and fresh and only the relatively few whites made at classed growth Châteaux - and mainly from Pessac-Léognan - will benefit from bottle age”.

There will be 10 splendid wines in the tasting which will be as follows:

1999  Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux

1988  Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux

1999  Château La Louvière

1996  Château Larrivet-Haut-Brion

1996  Château Haut- Brion Blanc

1995  Château Haut- Brion Blanc

1985  Château Laville Haut-Brion

2001  Les Hauts de Smith Haut-Lafitte

2002  Château Pape-Clément

2003  Domaine de Chevalier.

This is a very unusual tasting order but Michael will explain his reasons on the night!

Theme Labanese Banquet
Venue Noura Belgravia
Location Noura Lounge, 17 Hobart Place Belgravia SW1
Date May 26, 2012
Time 7:00 pm

Noura Belgravia was the first of the Noura restaurants inLondonand combines sleek, contemporary lines with the best in Lebanese cuisine. At lunchtime the restaurant is divided into a brasserie for more informal lunch as well as a traditional restaurant for those who wish to indulge in the full menu. In the evening, the whole restaurant is set for fine dining with more al fresco eating in the bar area.

As our Saturday evening events have been so popular in the past we have decided to offer you another at this prestige restaurant.

A drinks reception will start off our evening. Joseph Harb, the Manager, will welcome us with either beer or refreshing prosecco, a glass of red or white wine or any mixer ‘like Gin tonic.’
