Branch News
We are very pleased to report that two new branches have opened in the Sunshine state of Florida. They are:
Florida - Gulfstream Branch
The Gulfstream Branch celebrated its formation with two superb inaugural events in mid-April.
On April 14, Board Member Susan Hurley Essen opened up her home for a tasting of Bergström wines from Oregon's Willamette Valley. While sampling from a buffet which included beef tenderloin, tuna steaks and a variety of sides and deserts, Bergström marketing associate Jonathan Colby regaled them with stories of the winery’s history and addressed on the five wines being served – the 2020 Sigrid Chardonnay and four Pinot Noirs: the 2020 Silice, the 2021 La Spirale and both the 2021 and the 2016 Bergstrom Vineyard.
On the following evening 17 members and prospective members gathered on the patio overlooking the golf course at a country club community in North Palm Beach. They enjoyed a mélange of passed hors d'oeuvres accompanied by a Jean-Charles Boisset Crémant de Bourgogne Brut Blanc de Blancs Caviar, before descending to the club’s wine cellar for an astounding dinner.
Following remarks by Branch President Rand Hoch, the club’s executive chef and their sommelier, a Consommé de Volaille Ailerons truffle stuffed wings was served, paired with a 2020 Boisset Bourgogne Aligoté. Dutch white asparagus, wrapped in prosciutto, with fava beans and morels à la Crème followed, accompanied with a 2019 Simonnet-Fevre Chablis. Our fish course, a paupiette de sole aux fine herbes with shellfish and pea ragoût and nage d'huitres, matched perfectly with the 2020 Domaine Faiveley Mercurey. The next course featured a duet of milk-fed veal with spring forage, wild fennel and allium risotto, along with a 2011 Château d'Issan Margaux. We closed out the evening with a selection of cheeses and a blackberry financier with orange blossoms and vanilla bean. Both courses were accompanied by a 2010 Château Raymond-Lafon Sauternes.
Thanks go out to their Events Committee Chair Oscar Garza and committee members Lina Henriques and David Contreras for planning and executing these two events.
Florida - Jupiter Branch
The inaugural dinner for the Jupiter branch was held in celebration of the Chinese New Year. The dinner featured Chinese food and member John Hamman said ... "Hosting an inaugural Jupiter branch event featuring Chinese food made it a bit of a wine adventure for all of us, but Julia Collins, one of our Jupiter Branch members (and who is also an IWFS member of the NY and Houston chapters), did a brilliant job of pairing food and wine together. It was a great evening!"
